Questo tipo di attrezzatura può essere montata su macchinari in cui non è presente né un impianto idraulico né un impianto elettrico, indispensabili per il funzionamento delle altre attrezzature. Infatti, i movimenti vengono effettuati grazie a meccanismi interni: si chiude con il contatto sul materiale e si apre tramite uno sgancio o meccanico o elettrico comandato a distanza.
